News For the Week of October 17, 2011

We had most of our kids and grandkids here last Saturday evening to help celebrate Bob’s birthday with a chili and potato soup supper and cherry chip cake for dessert. Bob’s mom also came out and spent the evening with us, telling some good stories of when Bob was little and growing up. Sunday afternoon Bob and his mom and I went to Branson and over-ate…oops, did I say that…we ate dinner at Golden Corral. All in all, Bob had a good weekend of celebrating his birthday.

Julie and Scott were visiting his mother and grandmother over the weekend and Julie says the view and the changing leaves are gorgeous from his mom’s house, which is near Eastern Gate Church. I love the views from that part of the country, it seems you are sitting on the very top of the world. We don’t have that kind of view, but the leaves and scenery are pretty spectacular around our house too this year.

Joe Hurst was visiting with his parents, Bill and Clessie Hurst this past weekend, and brought them down a half-bushel of apples.

Don’t forget the Bradleyville FFA will be having a chili supper and auction on Nov. 4, supper starting at 6 p.m. with a silent auction during the chili supper and the regular auction starting at 7 p.m. The members of FFA are also selling raffle tickets for a really nice knife made by the McGinnis family.

Congratulations to the Bradleyville Jr. High boys on winning consolation in the Thornfield tournament, playing a good game with the Thornfield team. I know Plainview won third place against Ava Victory Academy but we didn’t stay for the championship game between Taneyville and Lutie so I don’t know who won that game.

High school volleyball will start district play next week and girl’s Jr. High basketball will be in a tournament at Lutie.

Another reminder that New Mansion Church will have a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 22 starting at 1 p.m. There are going to be lots of fun activities, including a country store, a BB/bow shoot, old time pictures, flower basket making, a skillet throw, a hayride to the pumpkin patch and old time singing. Everyone welcome, singers and musicians encouraged to bring their instruments and songs. At 6 p.m. there will be a pulled pork dinner.

The next day, Oct. 23 the church will have their annual hayride to the Caney Picnic Area. We will have a potluck meal following church and then leave on the hayride around 2 p.m. with services on the mountain at 4 p.m.Then on Sunday, Oct. 30 New Mansion will have a Hallelujah party, starting at 5 p.m. and a potluck supper at 6 p.m. For more information, call Jeff and Cindy Marsh at 796-2325 or Randy and Belinda Wyman at 785-4440.
