The
trees this fall have been absolutely gorgeous. The high winds we got a few days
ago blew a lot of the leaves off the trees, but there are still many brightly
colored leaves and many trees are still green, so we will have a display for a
while longer. I have a young red maple tree in my front yard that was about six
feet tall when I bought and planted it around eight years ago. It has grown
very well and it’s around 15-18 feet tall now. It hasn’t been very colorful
until this year, but this year it is starting to show its colors. I was
starting to suspect it might not be a red maple but a silver maple, which are
scattered all over my yard. I like them just fine, but wanted a red one. Red,
orange, yellow and lots of green left too. Whatever variety it is, I like it.
The
Hunsaker Family Singers were at the Protem Union Church Sunday morning, where
Ed Hunsaker is now the pastor. Besides Ed and Leona, their daughter Kayla Combs
sings with them and also Melanie Whittaker. They sang at our church back in
June, but we were gone to a family reunion and missed them. I’ve heard all of
them sing individually or in a duet, but I hope I get to hear them all together
sometime soon.
Well,
my mistakes continue and I have to apologize again. I said last week that we
would be going to the FFA chili supper and auction and mistakenly put the wrong
date for it. It actually will be on Friday evening, November 9 starting at 6:00
pm, with the auction after the chili supper. The Alumni ballgame will be on
Thursday evening, November 8. For more information you may call the school at
796-2288.
I
don’t have any excuse for all the mistakes I have been making, only an
explanation. I try to write the news at the last minute before the deadline and
then I am in a hurry trying to get everything in, seems like I’m not a good
multi-tasker.
Hayden
Crouch got a nice little buck with his bow last Friday morning. It was just the
right size to be tasty.
New
Mansion Church will be having a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 27, starting
at 1:00pm and lasting until the evening, sometime around 6:00pm. There will be
singing starting at 4:00pm, lots of food and games, everybody is welcome. The
next day, Sunday, October 28 will be the hayride from the church to the Caney
picnic grounds with a service on the mountain starting at 4:00pm. There will be
a potluck dinner immediately after church and the hayride will start around
2:00pm. For more information about either of these events you may call Cindy
Marsh or Belinda Wyman.
My
birthday and anniversary lists are old and I am revising them. Some of the
names on the lists are familiar, but I don’t really know the people the dates
are associated with, so if you would like your name to remain on either list
and you are not sure I personally know you, please give me a call at 796-2651
or e-mail me at karencase.55@gmail.com. I’m not really
sure if I will even continue with the birthdays and anniversaries, but time
will tell.
Birthdays
for the coming week include: October 24: Mike Hunsaker; October 25: Tim
Stafford; October 26: Susie Sims, Megan Taylor; October 27: Justin Adams,
Kenton Wiggins; October 28: Bubba Taylor; October 29: Bo Bonner; October 30:
Margaret Dalton, Dee Hodges, Walter Rogers, Sandy Ross.
