The
night before deer season Bob remarked that this would be the first
season in twenty-one years that he hadn’t taken a kid or grandkid
with him. I told him he wouldn’t know how to act out there all by
himself, and it seems I was right. He came in around 9:30 the first
morning and I asked him if he had a deer, then saw his truck---with a
load of firewood. He said he parked his truck right beside a dead
tree and thought what good firewood it would make, so he cut it and
loaded it and brought it in. I appreciated the firewood, probably
more than a deer.
Scott
Lawson and David Robertson went hunting up around Nevada over the
weekend and both got big bucks. I saw pictures but I didn’t count
the points.
Bob,
Julie, Garrett and I went to Ava last Sunday after church to get some
antifreeze for Bob’s trucks and winch truck. Nothing like waiting
until the last minute. We were hungry by the time we got there, so we
went through the drive through at the fast food restaurant. Garrett
was asleep and it was raining so we didn’t want to get out and go
inside. The rain was still coming down by the time we got to the
discount store, but we had to get out there to get inside, wonder why
they haven’t put in a drive through window yet? It would be pretty
handy, don’t you think?
Donna
Sloan got a call from her grandson, Jeremiah Cummings last weekend.
Jeremiah is career Army and on his third overseas tour of duty and is
in Afghanistan this time. He doesn’t get to call very often and
Donna was really happy to finally hear from him.
The
Chili Feed and sale at New Mansion Church was well attended last
Saturday. There were several different varieties of chili, soups,
stews and desserts to choose from, and lots of treasures for the sale
browsers. There were lots of hunting stories being told, and lots of
visiting among those like me that didn’t care to hunt. Along with
having the Chili Feed, we wrapped and filled over sixty Christmas
boxes for Operation Christmas Child. If you missed the chili feed
last Saturday it will happen again this Saturday.
The
FFA Chili Supper and auction at Bradleyville School last Friday night
was very well attended. A lot of donated items were auctioned off to
raise money for the FFA. The items ranged from gift baskets and pies
to a trolling motor, a pie safe, several large round bales of hay, a
meat smoker, several cages of chickens and many more items.
Several
Lady Eagles, including Danielle Crouch, Emily Todd, Casey Ridings,
Ellie Combs, Ally Swift and Savannah Norwine attended church at
Bradleyville General Baptist Church last Sunday morning to show
support for a fellow Lady Eagle, Mariah Clemans who injured her knee
in ball practice last week. Mariah will be having an MRI this week to
find out how much her knee is injured and what treatment she will
have.
This
Friday night will be Meet the Eagles at Bradleyville School. You may
call the school for more information.
I
didn’t get any news in the paper the last couple of weeks so I
missed making special mention to congratulate Joe and Nadine Horner
who celebrated their 60th
wedding anniversary on November 8th.
There are a couple more anniversaries this coming week which I feel
need special mention also, but I am unsure how many years for each
couple. Avriel and Lois Patterson on November 14 and Ray and Bonnie
Hurst on November 16.

November 20: Brian Moore, Wanda Osburn.
Anniversaries:
November 14: Avriel and Lois Patterson; November 16: Ray and Bonnie
Hurst; November 17: Gale and Wanda Osburn, John and Tampa Rogers;
